Patricia Lang: GOP voting suppression
Regarding the Sept. 8 news article “NCGOP leader lobbied counties to offer only a single early voting site”: Kudos to The News & Observer for obtaining and publishing the “critical and confidential” mass email sent by GOP 1st Congressional District Chairman Garry Terry to county election board members in which he urged them to limit early voting to the minimum one day or “not meet at all” before the deadline to schedule early voting hours.
He further suggested that Republican county officials schedule the single early voting day “during the work week.”
The continuing efforts by the GOP leaders of North Carolina to suppress voting in our state is shameful. From Gov. Pat McCrory on down to Garry Terry, their intentions are obvious – to limit the vote of a large number of North Carolinians.
On Election Day, voters should resoundingly send the message that these tactics will no longer be tolerated.
