Daniel A. Textoris: A play to repeal HB2
The Broadway award-winning musical “Kinky Boots” is playing at the Durham Performing Arts Center. A very humane message is delivered by music, dance and drama involving a shoe factory going broke. To keep from closing the factory and laying off workers, the son who inherited the factory keeps it in operation by making kinky boots for a drag queen and his troupe. The drama introduced is the public misunderstanding, followed by understanding, of aspects of human nature and how to deal with it.
It is a very provoking story very much in tune with House Bill 2 and the controversy it has wrought. I dare the Raleigh Gang (majority of the legislature and the governor) to attend a performance of the play and view it objectively, and then go back to a secret meeting and decide how to rid the state of this obnoxious law, in total.
