Douglas Williams: Trump won’t bow to GOP leaders

Regarding the Sept. 15 Point of View “Grappling with choice”: Although “businessman” and “author” may apply to Garland S. Tucker, I doubt he qualifies as a “historian.”

Although he attributed multiple scandals to Hillary Clinton, he failed to acknowledge the faults in his chosen candidate.

His historical perspective of Obama’s presidency conveniently overlooked the negative impact of the Republican Congress that publicly stated its desire to thwart President Obama. As an example, I wonder about the difference it would have made if they had worked to make the ACA a success instead of sponsoring the bills and lawsuits used to strangle the availability of health care to the public.

As a historian, Tucker should have no trouble analyzing the ability of the core of the Republican Party and its leaders to influence Donald Trump, the president. Just look at how well they’ve managed Donald Trump, the candidate.
