J.D. Roth: Older workers spurned

It is amazing that in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area with the number of jobs listed, on the internet job boards, etc., that people are having trouble finding employment. But this is the case for people who are 50 or older.

This population group is highly motivated, well-educated and has the skills necessary for today’s work environment.

I know several people who have been looking for work for a long time, and they have been turned down for positions for which they are qualified. It seems that the financial institutions, educational institutions, hospitals and other companies do not like to hire older workers.

Perhaps this region is not the mecca for jobs and employment that different groups report it to be.
