Glenn Conway: NCAA, ACC made rational decisions
Regarding the Sept. 16 news article “McCrory blames politics for the HB2 fallout”: Now that the NCAA and ACC have removed sporting events from North Carolina, Gov. Pat McCrory and the state GOP have taken to mudslinging and responsibility deflection yet again. Everyone else is at fault for the House Bill 2 situation, certainly not the governor. Presumably all of the consequences of HB2 are being driven by liberal elites and PC-types who want to socially engineer what happens in the state.
It apparently hasn’t occurred to any GOP group that the NCAA and ACC decisions are being made by rational people, probably many of whom actually voted Republican in the last election. Perhaps there are intelligent folks who don’t like the notion of prejudice and discrimination embedded in state laws and make decisions accordingly.
What gets me is that the governor admitted months ago that he signed the law into effect without even reading the final text. And now he blames the City of Charlotte, the state Chamber of Commerce and anyone else he can think of instead of showing real guts and admitting, “I screwed up.”
I screwed up helping to elect McCrory four years ago. Won’t happen again.
