Phyllis Danskin: A lovely, lingering surprise
On a recent Sunday morning as we prepared to head to church, I needed to pick up some things at a local grocery store.
As I placed the items on the counter, the young cashier asked if I was going somewhere special. I said as a matter of fact I was, and she handed me a beautiful bouquet of flowers. I was so excited and surprised and could not believe it was happening to me.
I told her that I was on my way to a 95th birthday party for a church member. They requested food items for her instead of birthday presents because she volunteers at the Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen downtown. I told the cashier I would like to give these flowers to this lady. The young lady told me to tell her, “Happy birthday.”
Upon arriving at church, I immediately headed to the birthday girl with the flowers. I repeated the story of the gift of flowers to everyone at the table.
Next week at church, my friend said, “Those flowers are still so pretty!”
Thanks go to the lovely cashier. She reached so many lives with that wonderful act of kindness. We never know how we can spread the love of Christ. “Pass It On.”
