Helen Featherson: Teacher found an answer

Regarding the Sept. 29 news article “Raleigh middle school's pedal desks draw worldwide attention”: Kudos to Bethany Lambeth, the Wake County Martin Middle School teacher who wrote a grant to get 10 DeskCycles for her students.

Bethany is an example of a teacher who really shows compassion for her students. She took the time to research ways to “help” rather than “punish” her students for being energetic.

Now, of course, her students are getting better grades and getting exercise that they might not get otherwise in this age of electronics. All schools need more teachers like Bethany.

Teachers are one of our most precious resources, yet we do not pay them what they deserve for having the responsible for the nurturing and education of another precious resource our children.

Please vote on Nov. 8 and keep in mind that funding for our schools is directly related to the success of our schools. Therefore, vote our conscience for any and all offices that may affect funding for our teachers and the futures of our children. Will their futures be brighter or just continue to flicker until the flame goes out?
