Don E. Francisco: Trump hiding behind audits

Megan McCardle’s Oct. 5 column “Trump’s 1995 return shows good tax policy” was quite informative. However, her concluding statement was “But on the charge of unseemly tax avoidance, if this is all the evidence we have, then the grand jury would have to return ... no bill.”

All the evidence is in Donald Trump’s tax returns, which he has been unwilling to release. His excuse is that they are being audited by the IRS. However, the IRS Commissioner says that there is nothing to prevent him from releasing tax returns under audit.

One very likely conclusion is that this is not all the evidence. He is withholding his returns in order to hide the evidence from the public.
