Peggy Nance Lyle: No need for Burr to forgive

Regarding the Oct. 11 news article “Burr says he’s forgiven Trump for lewd comments”: Richard Burr should recall the words of one of our nation’s finest Republican presidents, Abraham Lincoln: “I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong.”

The “forgiveness” needs to come from the women and others Donald Trump has offended, not from U.S. Sen. Richard Burr.
