Cheryl Mensch: Evangelicals lacking good sense about Trump

Regarding Dana Milbank’s Oct. 13 column “Religious right makes a deal with the devil”: It highlighted the sell-out by certain leaders of the Christian evangelical movement in order to gain political influence over their candidate of choice, Donald Trump.

Few people need to hear more about Trump in order to understand his platform or his character. But this article revealed the underside of the evangelicals who are excusing Trump’s moral lapses to further their agenda of a religious revival in the Congress and Supreme Court of the United States.

The excuses offered, such as Trump is a “baby Christian,” “he’s only trying to look like he’s macho,” “King David had 500 concubines, for crying out loud,” and, of course, the conspiracy theory that the establishment Republicans are behind the leak of the video, show the psuedo-Christian faith of these evangelicals.

I think it’s fair to ask, “What would Jesus do?”
