Jane Hunt: Let ‘reformed’ sex offenders enjoy fair

Regarding the Oct. 21 news article “Sex offenders barred from the State Fair”: Our State Fair banned 17,000 sex offenders from attending. Of these 17,000, there are 28 who are listed as violent offenders. Please, Sheriff Donnie Harrison, find those 28 violent predators and keep them at home, but let the 16,972 other persons who have served time for their offense, enjoy the fair like the rest of us.

Robin Vanderwell, co founder of the N.C. Chapter of Reform Sex Offender Laws, stated the law which bans these people is a violation of their civil rights. These offenders have been already punished by our “correctional” system, and hopefully “corrected,” and we all now should have our chance to practice forgiveness.
