Mary Best: Missed opportunities

Dr. Bob Bilbro (“CCNC doesn’t need tweaking” Oct. 26 letter) and Dr. Charles van der Horst (“The deadly toll of N.C.’s withholding Medicaid” Oct. 28 Point of View) continue their efforts to promote understanding of the great advantages of accepting federal funds to expand Medicaid.

Thanks to these two physicians for their repeated healing efforts by sharing their own experience as well as numerous facts supporting the huge economic and public health benefits of closing the Medicaid gap.

In addition to the moral issue involved in denying medical coverage to so many of our working poor, it is hard to understand why our governor and legislature fail to acknowledge the immense income boost and savings which this Medicaid expansion would give our state. How long will we continue to miss this opportunity?
