Sami A. Halaby: Krauthammer off base

Charles Krauthammer’s attacks on a UNESCO report on Jerusalem’s Old City, a World Heritage Site, in his Oct. 28 column “Is Obama preparing a parting shot at Israel?” are a crude attempt to divert attention from the reality described therein, which blames Israel, the occupying authority, for many actions that are changing the fundamental character of the city.

Examples of such actions are the desecration of Al Aqsa Mosque and Haram Al Sharif with dangerous archeological digs or proposals to build an overhead Cable Car system over the city much like the one at Disneyland.

Additionally, at the very least, the remarks to preempt President Obama from doing anything on the Israel-Palestine issue after he had concluded the $48 billion arms deal in support of Israel is a bit ungracious, considering the funds would be better spent solving some of the pressing problems at home.

It’s well beyond incredulity to imagine that The News & Observer continues to publish such intellectually dishonest stuff.
