Mariya Shaikh: ‘A wake-up call for minorities’

It is a Muslim’s inherent belief that everything happens for a reason, and there is good in everything though we may not be able to see it at onset.

The upsetting victory by Donald Trump is a wake-up call for all minorities. Though we’ve come a long way, yet we still have a long way to go. We need to get out of our comfort zone and continue to get involved and be heard. Running away is never the answer. True strength is facing up to challenges and working toward resolve.

This is not about us vs. them. This is about us continuing to learn and continuing to educate.

Those who fear us do so because they don’t know us well enough. We need to rectify this over the next four years.

This country, my adopted country and my kids’ home country, was, is and will continue to remain the greatest nation on earth.

America is where the working class enjoy the same rights as the elite. It is where hard work does lead to success. It is where we will continue to live in peace with dignity, faith and dedication.
