Paula A. Wolf: A slap at social justice
I disagree with the pundits who have arrived at the conclusion that we didn’t realize the depth of the anger of the American public. If it’s anger, it is totally misplaced. But it’s not anger.
What we didn’t realize was the depth of the misogyny, racism, xenophobia, pride in ignorance and hatred that exists in America.
As President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, “If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him someone to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”
I will never stop fighting for social justice with my friends, mentors and colleagues, even in the midst of our terribly sad society.
