Reed Elliott: Don’t disrespect majority vote

The writer of the Nov. 13 letter “So long, liberals” essentially warned “liberals” to “get out of town” because “the balance of Americans has given President-elect Trump a mandate.”

He seemed to have conveniently overlooked the fact that the majority of voters voted for Hillary Clinton, not Donald Trump. The only “mandate” here is for the letter writer and Trump to remember that fact.

Trump is President-elect only because of our bizarre Electoral College system. Those who didn’t vote for Trump don’t need to “get out of town” just because the Electoral College ignored the will of the majority for a second time in three presidencies.

We’re the majority, we’re here, we’re citizens and we expect to be treated with consideration and respect. That’s the American way. If the shoe was on the other foot, I’m sure the letter writer (and Trump) would heartily agree.
