Lynn and Mike Ruck: HB2’s real cost to businesses
Our company, Rain Water Solutions, has been in business since 1999.
Goal No. 1 is supporting manufacturing in North Carolina. Our products are produced in Smithfield and Mayodan of 100 percent recycled content. We work hard to have a positive impact on the environment and distribute our products across the country.
One of our many programs is in San Francisco and after providing the first year of rain barrels we received the following note: “We love your Ivy barrel and so do our customers. The San Francisco Rain Barrel Program is funded for five years renewable to nine years and we have that contract with the city. The mayor and Board of Supervisors mandated boycott of North Carolina companies in city-funded procurement contracts to put pressure on your state to repeal HB2, and our contract is one of those that is impacted. We can’t resume business with you until HB2 is repealed. Let your politicians know that this unnecessary measure is costing you and your state money.”
It’s a loss of $45,000-plus for our small business and more for our manufacturer in Mayodan. More economic bleeding from HB2.
