Charlotte T. Best: Focus on Earth, not Mars

Thanks for publishing the good tidings in the Dec. 1 column “Mars is just a dream.” I have always thought that the “Mars Escape Plan” was similar to adolescent threats to run away from home because the requirements for peaceful co-operative living were just too tough.

But now, because we humans are physically unfit for long space travel trauma, we can leave the escape dream aside and celebrate that we are part of our earth’s ecosystem, beautifully bound to every other form of life on the planet and morally responsible for the here and now.
