Cathy Whitaker: N.C. takes spotlight from Michigan
I’d like to thank the North Carolina General Assembly for grabbing the spotlight from Michigan. I know how North Carolinians feel when the national print, radio and TV news decides their state elected officials are so egregious and mean-spirited that they make headlines around the country on a regular basis.
Here in the mitten, there isn’t a Yooper in a duck stand or a pothead in Ann Arbor who didn’t know state government actions were poisoning the people of Flint with lead-tainted water for a year before the governor picked up a newspaper and figured it out for himself.
Fortunately, we now have North Carolina’s state Republicans acting like school-yard bullies who lost the kickball game throwing a tantrum in the national spotlight. It’s hard being the scourge of the nation, and I’d like to thank the North Carolina legislature for taking the spotlight off of our inept government and shining it on their own.
