Debbie Willmschen: Hold harassers accountable

Regarding the recent scandal involving male Marines who made sexually violent comments online about female Marines (“Tillis: Deny VA benefits for Marine vets who advocated rape, harassment,” March 15 news article), perhaps we need to recall that our Commander in Chief recently led by example on issues regarding the treatment of and respect for women.

I find it odd that Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Robert Neller said that simply describing this culture as “the dark humor of veterans” is “a copout.” In contrast, only a few short months ago, some described similar behavior by the (now) president of the United States as acceptable “locker room banter.”

When will we truly hold those guilty accountable? If we condemn this behavior in one, why not all?
