Nick Gervase: GOP ploy to regain commission

In November, four Democrats significantly beat four incumbent Wake County commissioners. Not happy that Wake County voters elected these new commissioners, the Republican legislature, led by Chad Barefoot, is planning to make major changes in how we elect commissioners in the future (“Dems pile on voting measure,” March 10 news article).

By creating a voting district that has three current Democratic commissioners in it and districts that guarantee the election of Republicans, they will eventually regain control of the commission.

Since the Republican legislature doesn’t like how Wake County voters vote, why doesn’t the legislature just appoint eight big money-donating Republicans to the board and get it done? They don’t care about us voters; they care only about the political power to do whatever they want.
