Amy Womble: Subverting will of voters

Regarding the March 10 news article “Dems pile on voting measure”: Sen. Chad Barefoot’s Senate Bill 181, which redraws lines for the Wake County Board of Commissioners, is an effort to subvert the will of Wake County voters. It is nothing more than thinly veiled retribution for the election of a majority of Democrats to the Board of Commissioners.

There has been neither community discussion nor public outcry for change in the way this governing body is elected. If such a bill were needed, why did Barefoot not introduce it while the board was majority Republican?

At a time when we should be working together to address positive ways to manage the growth of our county, I’m afraid that we’ll be wasting yet more time and tax dollars because of state interference in local policy.
