State Sen. Chad Barefoot has launched a crusade in the General Assembly to gerrymander the Wake County commissioners’ districts. Barefoot ran on improving education and creating jobs; he got elected. What’s he up to now? He’s worrying about redrawing political lines and continues to ignore anything resembling a true issue in his community or our state.
Four Democratic Wake County commissioners ran on improving education and transit; all four were elected. What are they up to now? They immediately had joint meetings with the Board of Education to discuss their future plans and are moving forward on transit.
Representation means carrying out the will of those they serve. Our county commissioners are working tirelessly to improve the Wake County school system and provide a state-of-the-art transit system. That’s what we voted for. We lost over 600 teachers last year, and some of our county’s most important roads and highways are becoming paralyzed with increasing traffic.
Many of our commissioners will likely get gerrymandered out of their seats, but I hope they won’t waste one more minute playing the political games that the GOP has started. There’s real work to be done.
