Rich McLaughlin: Starving universities not the answer

Regarding the March 16 column “The real value of higher education” Thanks to UNC President Tom Ross. Somebody finally told the story about how the federal and state legislatures have been systematically starving our university systems.

All the consternation about rising tuition and fees has missed the point. Our elected officials have intentionally shifted the burden of the cost of a higher education to students.

Investments in education always pay handsomely, but this is often lost on politicians.
