Michael Elvin: State of Wake
I’ve had it with the blatant hypocrisy of the N.C. legislature telling Wake County residents how they are to elect their county commissioners. We’ve heard for years how the Republicans are in favor of states’ rights against the federal government, and now they decide to ignore county rights against the state government. It’s an infringement.
I’m ready to start a secessionist movement, separating Wake County entirely from North Carolina so we can go our own way. We can obtain our supplemental funding the same way Washington, D.C. does: by charging the North Carolina government rent to operate on our premises. But we will not allow the legislators to tell us how to run our own affairs.
P.S.: We have more residents than Wyoming. I think we would make a fine little state.
