Molly Harper: Spring break school days lament

I am trying to be a supportive parent of WCPSS, but when my kids come home and say they should not have to go to school over spring break because the teachers are telling them they will be learning nothing new due to the chance of low attendance, I start to get impatient.

My kids are not going to the beach for a week of rest because we believe school is important. But if the teachers feel it is a waste of time, how can I convince my kids otherwise?

Is it true students who are absent those three days will not be counted absent? How is that fair? Maybe the future will allow the use of technology to complete assignments and not have kids sitting in classrooms watching videos.
