Robert Jones: Tax burden falls to all

Some of the comments from the March 8 N&O article “State’s income tax overhaul finally hits home for some” were nothing but bellyaching. Yes, don’t tax me, just tax someone else.

It is troubling that some think they don’t have to help pay the bills. I am grateful that our state legislature has finally started down the road to a tax code that eliminates all of the special interests on the revenue side of the budget. I hope that they get there.

If only our Congress could do the same. No personal exemptions, no deductions, no credits and a flat tax rate for everyone. What is unfair about eliminating the special interests?

Now, if someone could figure out how to eliminate all of the special interests on the spending side of the budget, we would really have something.

Robert Jones
