George W. Bang: Old ‘mainstream’ Cruz
Regarding the March 25 editorial “Right’s knight”: OK, News & Observer, enough is enough. You might buy ink by the barrel, but that does not give you a monopoly on truth.
You pillory Ted Cruz as some kind of extreme fringe character, but I defy you to identify any policy advocated by him or anyone else in the tea party wing of the GOP that was not mainstream stuff as recently as 30 or 40 years ago. You can advocate for “progressive” policies, but to state baldly that such issues as gay marriage, an unrestricted right to slaughter the unborn and unlimited immigration represent the norm is amnesiac in the extreme.
It is the left which should be on the fringe, defending policies and societal trends that not long ago would have been universally condemned as degenerate, not conservatives who are simply articulating beliefs and policies once universally acknowledged as mainstream.
