Roger M. Deese: Disclaimer needed for Tata
The March 24 editorial “Fox’s Gen. Tata” focused on national television appearances by N.C. Department of Transportation Secretary Tony Tata. In those interviews Tata spouts political comments.
When Dr. Gene Nichol’s political opinions were posted in newspapers he was required to add disclaimers that state his views do not represent the views of the university. This was in response to Gov. Pat McCory and other Republican complaints to the UNC Board of Governors.
Will McCory censure Tata? Will he insist that disclaimers follow Tata’s appearances on national TV? If not, our government is applying a double standard regarding state employees.
