Leah Beatty: Women need to act, run for office
Regarding the April 8 letter “Women pols” on the barriers that make running for office a seemingly futile endeavor in the current North Carolina political environment: I wholeheartedly agree with the writer up until her last point.
If we wait for the N.C. General Assembly to “show us that those who are elected can listen, analyze and make thoughtful decisions” before more women run, I’m afraid we’re in for a mighty long wait. Change happens from within. Women need to get in there and be vocal participants in the system in order to make a difference in our government.
I hope the writer’s fleeting interest revisits her and that she will consider running for office in North Carolina.
