Al-Shabab attack defies teaching of Islam
The senseless terror attack at the Garissa University campus in Kenya that left about 150 mostly Christians dead demonstrates total ignorance on the part of the terrorists. True followers of Islam cannot injure anyone with his tongue, let alone murder him. This terror attack defiles the teaching of the Quran, which categorically rejects the slaying of innocent souls.
These terrorist organizations claim to uphold the values of Islam and the honor of Muhammad. In reality they are disparaging and humiliating Muslims. Killing in the name of Islam or any other religion is strongly against the ethics and tenets of the faith.
It is in the light of this that Ahmadiyya Muslim youth organization has started a campaign called “Stop the crISIS.” We stand for peace and categorically reject all forms of terrorism and “jihad by the sword.” A Stop the crISIS event is planned for 5 p.m. Thursday at the student union at UNC-Chapel Hill. All are invited.
Islamic fundamentalism has dominated the media landscape for far too long. It is through the collective effort of the community and better understanding of the issues that we can win the war against these terror groups. Together, we can prevent youths from falling victims to the lies and propaganda that has no bearing on the true teaching of Islam.
