Paul W. Thayer: Failure to realize taxing impact
Legislators seem surprised by the adverse impact of their tax bills on residents, especially the elderly.
These same legislators talk about support for business. It is obvious that most of them could not run a business, as any good business owner would have modeled the impact of any change on clients (taxpayers). Data for taxpayers are available, and it would be simple to model the impact of a given tax on any and all.
If they don’t know what the results of their actions might be, they shouldn’t legislate.
