John F. Bridgers: Tillis counters Air Force
Regarding the April 18 news article “Tillis presses case on 440th”: Sen. Thom Tillis must know more about the needs and requirements of our Air Force than its own military staff.
The Air Force report proposing to close the 440th Airlift Wing in order to reduce costs and modernize its aircraft while having “no adverse impact” on our Global Response System doesn’t agree with Tillis’ own assessment of what is best for our Air Force and national defense system.
Perhaps we should permit our members of Congress like Tillis to make all decisions involving the modernization of our military. No sense in having the Air Force and other service branches spending their time on cost-cutting measures and the modernization of our armed forces when certain members of Congress are more knowledgeable in these matters.
