James J. Carrino: Election reminder
I am a senior citizen who has lived in North Carolina for the past 46 years. After reviewing the N.C. tax code for 2014, I want to thank our “enlightened” state legislators for eliminating the medical deductions for North Carolina taxpayers. (This, in a year when our family incurred the expense of open-heart surgery and its incidental costs.)
Under federal tax law, even the clinical IRS allows for such medical deductions.
Bottom line: More tax revenues for the state and more pain for the taxpayers who can least afford it.
I sincerely hope our residents will remember this ignorance or ineptitude by some of our legislators when election time comes around. Our family and friends certainly will.
