Pat Kenny: Dems caused Lynch delay

It’s sad that the April 24 editorial “Delay and consent” badly distorted the cause for the delay of the confirmation of Loretta Lynch as attorney general.

The delay was not caused by “racial bias” or “Senate dysfunction” as you imply but rather by Senate Democrats! Democrats wanted federal funds for abortions within the anti-human trafficking bill, contrary to prohibitions contained in the longstanding Hyde Amendment. Sen. Mitch McConnell and the Republicans were not going to agree to that provision.

Once the Democrats gave up that quest, the human trafficking bill passed unanimously, and Loretta Lynch was then quickly confirmed with 10 Republican votes.

Voicing your editorial views is most appropriate, but distorting the facts is completely inappropriate.
