Jan Swain: Black eye for N.C.
Recently Volvo announced plans to invest $500 million to build a plant in the United States. Apparently North Carolina was one of the states being considered. It was reported recently that North Carolina was no longer an option.
Since then our officials have been discussing increasing considerably the millions of dollars offered in incentives to lure new business to the state.
Most major companies care about their employees. Perhaps they would not like to move to a state with such high gasoline taxes, poorly paid teachers and elderly residents who are seeing their retirement funds dwindling due to recently removed tax breaks for seniors.
