Vicki Boyer: Uncaring GOP
I sat in the House gallery recently witnessing the discussion over the bill requiring a 72-hour waiting period prior to abortion. I was disturbed over the bill’s passage, but even more disturbed about the actions of GOP men during the debate. Most got up and left the chamber, returning only when called in to vote against the two common-sense amendments proposed and a third time to vote for the bill.
Here is legislation that could affect the health of any woman in the state, and, just like the committee chair who adjourned before anyone could speak against this proposal, they could not even be bothered to listen. That alone proves this was an ideological decision and has nothing to do with the health of women.
These men have so little interest in the health needs of North Carolina’s women that instead of attending to debate and testimony, they retreat to the corridor for a gabfest.
They really don’t care. Not about women. Not about their health.
I always vote. And I’ll remember.
