Deirdre Mack: Transparency for men

I found the May 1 Point of View “72-hour delay bad medicine” by Drs. David Grimes and Amy Bryant particularly informative, especially the information on reporting requirements.

To reiterate, abortion is not an “oops” form of birth control but an emotionally and measured decision between a woman and her doctor based on many factors.

To denigrate women by assuming they are not capable of making this decision, but need a bunch of men in positions of power to advise them, is ludicrous.

Imagine if men in order to get a prescription for Viagra were required to undergo vigorous questioning about their sex life, partners, venereal diseases and the always recurring “need to procreate.” An invasive cystoscopy to eliminate any medical need would appear to me to be reasonable.

Oh, and let’s make sure any findings don’t stay in their doctor’s office but are reported to the Department of Health and Human Services.

What is the difference?
