Stephen Trexler: Good cop, bad cop
Profiling and stereotyping are decried as wrong all over the country, but is this not what those who paint all police officers with the same brush are doing? People are just that, people, and therefore cannot be expected to always operate at a legislated level.
Morality is for those who believe there will be an accounting someday. The system often adopted by the general population is more apt to be the one that suits a present direction or whim. Everyone wants what they want, and that is not necessarily what is right or proper or legal.
Police officers are, for the most part, those who feel a need to serve the public in some way. The majority are not power hungry or maladjusted members of society at large – they are just average persons who decided to be in the law enforcement segment of our justice system.
Those who have ever needed one have probably been appreciative of their response to duty with honor. So before we put every one of them in the same line, give it some thought.
