Harles Cone: Intolerance for tolerant
Regarding the May 4 Points of View “What God designed” and “Using selective literalism”: Thank you for the clarity and succinctness of the contrasting views held by individuals within the Christian faith tradition regarding the issue of same-sex marriage. Each view is offered a reasoned and compelling case to support its position.
However, these individuals are not likely to be members of the same church and, regrettably for all, the “paradox of tolerance” will see to it that the intolerant will find it impossible to accept any view other than their own, and it cuts to the heart of tolerance to be intolerant – even toward those who would disallow their right to exist.
