Jarvis John Edgerton: Giving thanks to who really paid debt
According to a May 12 full-page advertisement in The N&O by the Chamber of Commerce, it is time to thank folks for the tax cut, surplus and paying off the unemployment debt.
While the chamber opted to spend lots of money to thank Gov. Pat McCrory and the General Assembly, I would like to use my considerably smaller resources to thank those who actually paid for these accomplishments.
Thanks to seniors with large medical expenses for sharing more of your fixed income.
Thanks to the unemployed North Carolinians for losing weeks of support so the wealthy members of the chamber could cover their insurance debt.
Thanks to the middle class for paying more in fees and new taxes so the rich can have the biggest slice of the income tax cut pie.
Thanks to small businesses for giving up a $50,000 tax deduction so that large corporations could pay less.
Thanks to experienced teachers.
Thanks to underfunded judicial branch.
Keep up the sacrifices. Full-page ads don’t come cheap.
