Gordon Clay: Think big on rail
Regarding the May 15 news article “Council questions light-rail switch”: I find the idea of GoTriangle ending the proposed rail line somewhere on Alston Avenue in Durham shortsighted.
Punching the rail line another five or so miles to RDU seems to this average Joe the best long-term, economical solution.
The ridership from a well-placed, light-rail terminus at RDU (leave room for the others east of Wake County to come up with their own line) would boost (sustain?) the entire effort.
This country used to build things of worth. We do not get there by thinking small.
