Trump siding with Putin is a ‘disgrace’
Regarding “Trump sides with Putin over blame for election meddling” (July 17): It’s truly amazing that a POTUS would discredit his own federal government when in fact he would never be able to pass a security clearance himself.
Trump has embarrassed our country in front of the whole world. He is a disgrace to the office of the president.

Whose fault?
Regarding “A rally can’t mask the hog industry’s real stink in NC” (July 13): I’m not sure if it was unfortunate or convenient that Ned Barnett, in his opinion piece about the North Carolina pork industry, failed to mention that there is a state-imposed moratorium on building new hog farms.
When people move to the country and buy or build a house without due diligence, it is then the farmers’ fault that animal agriculture produces odor?
If we aren’t producing food in rural America we need to decide which foreign country it is going to come from.

‘Insulted’
Regarding “NC legislators bring budget pork home” (July 11): No wonder the Republican supermajority in the General Assembly wants to dole out $3 million in gifts instead of giving state agencies the authority to hand out the available funds through grants as suggested by state Senate Minority Leader Dan Blue. The agencies are overseen by Gov. Roy Cooper’s appointees.
It is interesting that the Franklin County Educational Foundation received $60,000 to give 600 teachers $100 each for classroom materials. I suspect each teacher paid more than that from their pockets to assist their students and I would not be surprised if most of them were insulted with this stipend from state Sen. Chad Barefoot.

Trump questioned
Regarding “Trump sides with Putin over blame for election meddling” (July 17): How can Trump deny the meddling of Russia in the U.S. elections when our intelligence agencies and special counsel Bob Mueller have given dates, names and locations of the interference?
Trump would rather believe Russian President Vladimir Putin because he was strong, yet he abandoned our intelligence agencies. He associates himself with dictators. Republicans have to act responsibly to control this ignoramus and enact legislation to stop him.
Trump has already denigrated the Constitution when bowing down to Putin and not standing up for America.
Another point of contention involves appointing Supreme Court justices when he cannot defend America under the Constitution. He is already bordering on treason. He is destroying our democracy by his appointments to his Cabinet, negatively affecting education, environment, economy, housing, energy, healthcare, homeland security transportation and labor.
The question remains, does Putin have something on Trump?

‘Home run’
What a pleasure to read two recent articles in your newspaper, those by J. Peder Zane and Michael Jacobs. It is unusual to read an article that is not based on liberal thought . The article Jacobs was a home run because I share the views that he expressed.
I am tired of leftists accusing people with conservative views of being bigoted merely because they believe in legal immigration or disagree with anti-capitalist views and increased socialism.

‘Disdain’
I am sick of the articles by people expounding on how difficult it is for some to obtain a picture ID and that requiring one to vote is exclusionary.
I am reminded of that specious argument with each visit to a local hospital. Signs everywhere demand a picture ID to attest to identity.
Yesterday’s experience at a local restaurant chain cemented my disdain towards such articles . In order to use a credit card to buy an $8 pizza, I, a mid-80s “senior citizen,” was asked for a picture ID.
If an $8 purchase demands such identity affirmation, how can anyone argue that our most sacred of citizen responsibilities should accept anything less?
