Joe Dew: Will legislators kowtow?
Regarding the May 21 news article “Donor withholds $25,000 from GOP”: Bob Luddy’s email to state House Republicans, telling them he’ll not send them the $25,000 in campaign donations he had intended, does more than pull back the curtain on how people with deep pockets can buy influence.
It puts those state lawmakers in a tough spot: If they pursue their course and refuse to do his bidding, they likely will lose out on more money. If they change their plan to accommodate some or all of his wishes, they look like nothing more than political lackeys doing the work of the high bidder.
Count me among those who hope House members stiffen their spines and stare down their patron turned bully.
