Rebecca Bradford: We must serve all

Regarding the May 28 news article “Bill moves exempt magistrates”: As public servants, we cannot choose to serve only the public we agree with.

Magistrates are entrusted with performing legal marriage ceremonies. Representatives and senators follow the laws of the state and work to serve all of their constituents.

I am a public school teacher. I do not choose my students. I teach them to the best of my ability. None of us should be allowed to discriminate in the services we offer.

NCGA members should not support this piece of discriminatory, and possibly unconstitutional, legislation.
