Jimmy Cox: Corrections made

Regarding the June 9 editorial “UNC dilemma”: After yet another editorial about the UNC academic “scandal,” I am convinced that The N&O is indeed in the summer rerun season just like the major TV networks.

In fact I am reminded of the old “Saturday Night Live” catchphrase about the health of the former Spanish dictator when it would break into its weekend news update with the bulletin that “Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead!”

Ending your piece with the question of whether UNC has learned its lesson or returned to status quo is out of line. Nowhere in your piece did you note that these classes ended in 2011. You and most other media fail to note that UNC voluntarily opened its closets as it paid for the colonoscopy known as the Wainstein Report.

UNC made errors, and it has corrected them. How about an editorial on that?

And while you are at it, challenge the other area universities to submit their programs to the same internal scrutiny. Rest assured you would get something fresh to write about.
