Art Wilson: A GOP plank

Thank you for your June 6 editorial recognizing Republican Sen. Tamara Barringer’s expertise on children’s issues as well as her proposal before the Senate budget committee regarding foster children. Our children are too often verbally cited as “our future” but in supportive action shortchanged. To note that Barringer is a Republican and champion her concerns about foster children is appreciated by Republicans. Barringer’s supporters have long known of her passion for our youth.

As a constituent, I know the Republican Party is not just the “party of rich old white men.” Article One of our platform is dedicated to “Family” and the governmental laws that are intended to protect it. And our history shows 80 percent of our senators and congressmen voting for the 1964 Civil Rights Act versus 60 percent of the Democrat Party.

So I thank your for supporting Barringer and call on her Republican colleagues to remember our platform and support her.
