Lise Osvold: Impeding bikers

Irony is abundantly obvious in one of the Senate’s latest moves: to make unlawful the conversion of car lanes to bike lanes (“Senate tries to curb ‘road diets’,” June 20 news article).

I was unfamiliar with the term “road diets” to refer to those roads that accommodate bicycles and pedestrians, but it’s apt, as it guarantees the roads’ continued obesity as well as the obesity of our residents.

In response to this law, Americans will continue their pattern of driving even short distances rather than risk their lives on the city streets that many drivers consider their personal race track, as they are free to barrel down both lanes.
