Steve Kreider: More good parents
Much is still needed to restore faster economic growth to the United States. More liberal tax, regulatory and immigration policies could turbocharge this economy.
Most fundamental in a global economy is a skilled workforce. Providing our children with the tools to thrive in the jobs of tomorrow is the surest way to ensure that America continues to be the most dynamic economy in the world.
Educating children falls largely on parents, and we have seen declines in U.S. educational achievement correlate with the breakdown in family structure over the last generation.
Much of our problems in contemporary America whether poor education, mass incarceration or limited economic opportunity often stems from broken families not prepared to raise children.
The fact that same-sex couples are eager to join the institution of marriage has the potential to be overwhelmingly positive for society. Many of these couples are not just committed to their partners but also to raising neglected children.
Married same-sex parents offer the greatest hope to reverse this vicious cycle. Our society and economy will be better for it.
