Sam Hinnant: Teflon-coated NRA

David Fellerath’s July 6 column “I own guns, but I hate the NRA” was spot on.

My breakup with the NRA came about when so-called cop-killer bullets were first manufactured. Those Teflon-coated rounds were designed for one purpose: to penetrate bullet-resistant vests so as to inflict lethal wounds on police officers.

Despite protestations from police officers and their organizations nationwide, the NRA supported the bullets. Why? Because its primary purpose is to promote the manufacturers’ sale of guns and ammo.

Gun enthusiasts who faithfully and enthusiastically support the NRA through dues should get educated as to whose interests the organization really represents.

Sam Hinnant
